Trip to Badami - Part 4 (Exploring Badami)

DAY FOUR 13th September 2016

Plan for the day is exploring the Badami Cave temple till noon and return journey. We have plenty of time so no to hurry. At early morning 0600hrs left the lodge and took cup of super hot tea in a small hotel located just in front of the lodge.

Our first destination is Banashankari Amma Temple which is located near Badami and just 5km from the town. The temple is also called as Vanashankari since it is located in the Tilakaranya forest area. The temple attracts Devotees mainly from Karnataka and neighboring state Maharashtra.

The original temple was built on 7th century by Kalyany Chalukya King, who was worshiped Goddess Banashankari as their tutelary deity.  Rebuilt structure was in Vijayanagara architectural style, temple was surrounded by high walls and main structure consists Mukha Mantapa (Portico) and Ardha Mantapa (entrance porch).

Sanctum topped by Vimana (Tower). The famous Banashankari Jaatre (fair) held in every in  January or February Month.

It was around 0715hrs decided visit one more temple called Shri Kshetra Guddada Ranganatha Swamy Temple built on top of the hill. Concrete road is built till the half way there after one has to climb the steps, and it is easy to climb. It gives first glimpse of Badami Cave temple.

After spending an hour at top of the hill went to the Main cave temple of Badami. It was around 0830hrs entry gate was just opened and  we are the first visitors.

The Badami cave temples are a complex of four temples, these are best examples for rock cut architectures.

All four cave temples are beautifully maintained, details are properly written on the board, security guards are deployed everywhere, the provide proper guidance.  If you would like to explore every details of the caves, carvings one month is not enough for you. It contains such a minor details. Totally very rich in culture and  properly maintained.

After visiting all cave temples went back to the parking lot where my Green bull was parked. Its around 1000hrs stomach started blink low fuel indicator😁😁. So decided to make it full tank at near by hotel.

After the breakfast went to the Boothanatha Groups of Temples which is located near the Museum. Mainly there are two temples in this complex one is Bhoothanatha temple with open type Mantapa. Another is another is Mallikarjuna Group of temples.
