Trip to Nanjangud and Lepakshi - Part 2

DAY TWO 14th DECEMBER 2014

As per plan friend Suraj also reached Bangalur on 13th Night and we met morning near Mekhri Circle around 0010hrs and our destination is small village called Lepakshi located in the Antanthar District of Andhrapradesh where a significant temple located.

 Till out skirt of the Bamgaluru i.e Air port there was heavy traffic playing on the road there after start to reduce.

 Total distance between Bangaluru to Lepakshi 120km. So just 3 hrs leisure ride to us. When we reached near Chikballapur saw a beautiful flower farms on the road side and stopped for some photographs.

Just behind the flower farm there is one grape field and farmers are plucking the grapes,we asked the local people they showed the road which took us to the big grape filed.

Some labors are busy with plucking the delicious purple grapes, we took some photographs with their permission, after that when we move towards Lepakshi an old man brought some grapes in the polythene cover and give it to us.

Gift to the visitors....
We had plenty of time so cruise on fantastic  highway leisurely, and around 1230 hrs reached ner Kodikonda and decided to take lunch break on highway side Hotel.

After having Delicious Hot Andrra meal headed towards Leapakshi, took diversion from Bangaluru Hyderabad Highway headed on Lepakshi Road.

 Road condition was not bad and some road construction works are going one the way, Traffic also less. Some plain land and Makki (Corn) and sugarcane fields found on road side.

 As soon as reached Lepakshi huge boulders starts to appear, In the entrance  a  huge Nandi (Bull) slupure made out of granite stone comes.

When we enquired the people about the Lepakshi temple they suggested us to visit first to the Bull Idol which kept inside the park like construction. So we went inside.




There were many visitors inside the park and all of them in picnic mood, taking pictures, eating food and enjoying.

Lepakshi Nandi said to be biggest monolithic Nandi In India, It is 10meter length and 6 meter height.It was positioned such a way that it faces the Shivalinga shielded by huge Serpent inside the temple.

After that went to the famous Lepakshi temple, When you park the vehicle be careful because man monkeys are wandering around the temple.Temple is built in little height from the road level to reach one has to climb some steps.

This temple is dedicated to Veerabadhra built by Veeranna and Virupanna and it was notable example of Vijayanagara Architectural style. The Historic town Lapkshi has been connected to Ramayana. It is said to be dying Jatayu met Sriam and Hanuman here and they helped to attain moksha by uttering the words "Le Pakshi" which is Telugu for "Rise Bird" Hence the name Lepakshi.

 After taking Darshan went back to outside, If you check the construction of the temple it looks like half built one or incomplete.

After spending 2 hours inside the temple headed towards Tumkur on the way get heavy rain so took waited under bus shelter at somewhere. 

On the way super land scape forced to pull out the bull and take camera from the bag, mixture of clouds and sunlight in the backdrop of Sunflower field. 











Around 1900hrs reached Tumkur and ended our second day trip.
